Bolingbrook HS Grad Competes in Tuesday's Olympic Track and Field Finals
Tune in Tuesday as a Bolingbrook native faces off in the Olympic track and field finals in Rio De Janerio.

The spotlight will shine on one of Bolingbrook's own Tuesday as he vies for a medal in an Olympic Games track and field final.
Bolingbrook High School graduate Troy Doris is among ten athletes headed to the finals for the triple jump. His qualifying leap of 16.81 meters during Monday's preliminaries earned him the spot. He is currently ranked sixth among global competitors, according to results from the International Olympic Committee.
Guyanese by naturalization, Doris is representing Guyana — the fourth smallest country on mainland South America. He recently discussed his thoughts on the switch from team U.S.A. to team Guyana.

“It has been years of anticipation and hope for this moment,” Doris said, in a Bugle Newspapers report. “I used to compete for the U.S., but I felt that switching to Guyana just gave me a better opportunity for track and field. The U.S. is more competitive and I knew I could have done it, there are just so many people that I know that I know there are chances to miss out on competing in these Olympic games even if you are one of the best in the world.”
He also noted the pride he feels for his family heritage.

While attending Bolingbrook High School, Doris achieved two of the top 20 triple jumps in Illinois history, the article says. He took the state title during his junior year and won during his senior season in 2007 before moving on to compete for the University of Iowa and thereafter, becoming a professional athlete.
Be sure to tune into the Olympic Games triple jump finals at 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday to see Doris compete.
