Bolingbrook To Observe Memorial Day With 3 Local Cemetery Gatherings

The Village will honor fallen soldiers with ceremonies at Boardman and Hillcrest cemeteries as well as at the Town Center Veterans Memorial.

BOLINGBROOK, IL – The Village of Bolingbrook will honor fallen soldiers in three different ceremonies on Memorial Day as the community comes together to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.

Memorial Day ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m. at Boardman Cemetery, which is located on Paxson Road just north of Royce Road before another service is held at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery. Hillcrest Cemetery is located on Boughton Road just adjacent to Fire Station No. 3. The final opportunity to gather will take place at 11 a.m. at the Town Center Veterans Memorial, which is located at 375 W. Briarcliff Road.

Boardman Cemetery will be open to the public for tours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, the village announced on Tuesday. Members of the Bolingbrook Historic Preservation Commission will be present at the Royce Road cemetery to answer questions about the cemetery's history.

The Bolingbrook V.F.W. and the American Legion will begin with a memorial service at the cemetery at 9:30 a.m. At least one Civil War veteran is buried at Boardman, officials said.

Village offices will be closed on Memorial Day and trash and recycling services will be pushed back a day for the remainder of the week. Residents are reminded if they have a situation that needs immediate attention but is not an emergency, they should contact the Bolingbrook police non-emergency line, which is available 24 hours a day by calling (630) 226-8660.
