Dorothy J. Schreiner
Dorothy J. Schreiner, age 82, passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord on Saturday, December 20, 2025 in Fort Myers, Florida, her second home. Born on September 26, 1943, in Joliet, Illinois, Dorothy spent most of her life in Joliet. She attended St. Raymond’s Grade School, St. Francis Academy, and the College of St. Francis. Deeply influenced by the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, Dorothy entered the convent at the Franciscan Motherhouse in Joliet in 1961. Though her time there was brief, she discovered her passion for teaching and carried a deep love for the Franciscans throughout her life.

Dorothy devoted 34 years to teaching at Parks School in Joliet, where she cherished both the school and the children she taught. She found great joy in reading, gardening, and traveling. After retiring, Dorothy discovered a passion for woodworking and began spending winters in Fort Myers, where she especially loved the beach.
During her years in Fort Myers, Dorothy was an active and respected member of the Parker Lakes condominium community, where she proudly served as HOA president.

Dorothy is survived by her cousins, Robert Eberhard of Joliet and Linda Roberson of Downsville, Louisiana; her numerous nieces and nephews from the Muir family; many other cousins scattered throughout the country; and dear friends in both Fort Myers and Joliet.
She is preceded in death by her beloved companion, Mary Jane Muir; and by her parents, Dorothy (née Rosenfield) and Vincent Schreiner.
Funeral services for Dorothy J. Schreiner will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 N. Hickory Street, Joliet. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 9:00 a.m. until Mass at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Catholic Charities of Joliet, 16555 Weber Rd., Crest Hill, IL 60403 would be appreciated.
