Community Gathers in Bolingbrook for “No Kings Day” and Stand for Democracy
Bolingbrook, IL — Hundreds of community members came together this weekend to celebrate No Kings Day, a grassroots event uplifting democracy, equality, and the power of the people. The event was hosted by Working Families Will County and Indivisible, bringing residents together to reject the idea of concentrated power in a dictator and champion community-led change.
“No Kings Day is about reminding ourselves that in this country, no one person rules over the rest of us,” said Jackie Traynere, Will County Board Member (D-Bolingbrook). “Real power belongs to the people and events like this are how we build a stronger, more engaged community.”

“This isn’t just a rally; it’s a movement,” added Rachel Ventura, Illinois State Senator. “When communities come together to organize, to speak up, and to demand accountability, we make democracy stronger. We’re here to show that we the people will always have a voice.”
Barbara Parker, DuPage Township Clerk shared, “Today was proof of what happens when neighbors unite around shared values. We don’t need kings or rulers, we need each other. This is what democracy looks like.”
Many attendees wore inflatable costumes as a playful but powerful symbol of resistance. The inflatable outfits make a bold visual statement as they’re larger than life, like the unchecked power we’re standing up to. It’s also a nod to the solitary Portland frogs. A reminder that even small, seemingly quiet acts can ripple out and inspire collective action. Just like those frogs became a symbol of standing up to authority, rally goers show that everyday person can rise up and push back against systems that try to overshadow our democracy.
