Community Invited to Hear About Mitchem's 'New View'
New superintendent will hold series of community forums beginning the first week of August.

James Mitchem Jr., the , will unveil his team’s plans for making VVSD one of the top school districts in the state during a series of community forums beginning the first week in August.
Titled “The New View: A Design for Change,” the forums will focus on VVSD’s efforts to better prepare students for life after high school both academically and socially by increasing the rigor in the classroom and providing highly qualified, caring teachers and administrators.

The initial forum will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Romeoville Recreation Center, 900 W. Romeo Rd. (135th St.) Child care will be provided by the Recreation Center staff for $2 a child. Spanish language interpreters will be available as will Spanish language copies of Mitchem’s PowerPoint presentation.
The second forum will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 4 at the , 251 Canterbury, in Bolingbrook. Members of the Bolingbrook High School National Honor Society will provide child care. Spanish language interpreters will be available as will Spanish language copies of Mitchem’s PowerPoint presentation.

A question-and-answer session will follow the formal portion of Mitchem’s presentation, which is expected to last an hour or so. Mitchem and his team will be available for conversation until 9 p.m. Anyone wishing to submit a question for Mitchem in advance is welcome to go to www.vvsd.org and click on
Mitchem plans on holding six follow-up forums in September at Pioneer and R.C. Hill elementary schools, Lukancic and Humphrey middle schools, and Romeoville and Bolingbrook high schools. Specific dates and times have not been set.
