Police: Coyotes Spotted in Bolingbrook, No Attacks Reported

have been getting multiple calls about coyotes roaming the village, police officials say. But none of those calls have been the result of a coyote attack.

But Bolingbrook Lieutenant Mike Rompa said coyotes should not be a cause of concern. 

"They are genuinely afraid of humans but you always need to keep a safe distance," he said. "Small pets reflecting their normal pay—squirrels, rabbits, etc.—need to be monitored. They are looking for food, which becomes more difficult to find with the change of season."

Rompa said the same could be said for hawks and owls.

He said coyotes typically don't like noise, so an alarm or air horn can quickly deter their interest in a given area.

One Bolingbrook Patch reader has said their neighbors have reported seeing four coyotes walking down the middle Vista Drive last weekend.
