No Hate Crime In Graffiti, Brick-Throwing Incident: Bolingbrook

Racist and homophobic graffiti were reportedly scrawled on the home.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Three months after a brick was thrown through a window and a home in the 100 block of Enclave Circle, Bolingbrook police are saying the incident stemmed from a personal dispute and not a hate crime. "The public and media classified the event as a 'hate crime' as the family was Muslim," police said in a statement released Thursday.

But, police said, "After a lengthy investigation and identification of a suspect, the victims/residents do not wish to pursue criminal complaints and the case has been closed as of July 21."

Police said the crime was not a random act of violence or a hate crime, and that the victims' son and the suspect knew each other. The incident stemmed from a "personal matter," police said.
