Park District to Host Earth Day Celebration on Saturday

Earth Aid will include eco-friendly vendors, a meet and greet with real bats, food vendors, live music, green living seminars, information on recycling opportunities and more.

The community is invited to get down to earth with the this weekend during its first Earth Day celebration.

Earth Aid will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at , located at 419 Trout Farm Road.

“We’re hosting the event primarily to increase the awareness of environmental issues and how individuals and families can take steps to be more eco-friendly,” said Dan Leahy, marketing and communications manager for the Bolingbrook Park District. “We want to be seen as community leaders in eco-activism and a resource that can help people engage with their world.”

The day will include local, eco-friendly vendors with free samples and green-friendly tips, a meet and greet with real bats, food vendors, live music, green living seminars, information on recycling opportunities and more.

The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970.

Leahy said 25 vendors are participating in the Park District's inaugural Earth Aid event.

Why should people attend?

“Tons of reasons,” Leahy said. “Free samples, educational and informative for adults but fun and entertaining for the kids. (It) should be a great mix of activities and an easy free way to spend a couple hours of your Saturday.”
