Police Department Holding Open House for Youth Explorers Program

The will host an open house Tuesday for its youth explorer program, which aims to enable young people to become responsible individuals by teaching them positive character traits, career development, leadership and other life skills.

The open house is geared toward youths between the ages of 14 and 21 who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

The Bolingbrook Law Enforcement Explorer Program's open house will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday inside the , 375 W. Briarcliff Road, and will offer hands-on training in crime scene investigation, felony suspect arrest, traffic stops, crisis intervention and various other aspects of police work.

The open house, according to the department's website, has been designed carefully to meet the needs and desires of young people interested in law enforcement as a career. The program will provide opportunities to receive training in law enforcement methods and to assist law enforcement personnel in their work.

The program is sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America and the . In August, the group attended the Law Enforcement Explorer State Competition in Springfield and won five first-place and two second-place trophies.

Meetings for the program are held weekly on Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., and participants learn about various law enforcement techniques and also participate in a number of other activities such as canoeing and laser tag.
