Bolingbrook Police Chief Kevin McCarthy said Ford is in the last year of offering its Crown Vic as a police squad car. According to a release, the Crown Vic was an aging platform and modern demands for greater fuel efficiency and technology led Ford to develop new models. The release said Ford will base its new police cars off of the Ford Taurus or Explorer.

The Chevy Impalas also offer better fuel mileage, McCarthy said.
