Should Village Clerk Be Elected Or Appointed: Bolingbrook Asks Voters
The referendum will ask voters to decide if the clerk position should remain an elected position, or if it should be an appointed position.
BOLINGBROOK, IL — At its meeting on Tuesday, the Bolingbrook Village Board approved placing a binding public question on the March 19 ballot regarding the office of Village Clerk.
The referendum will ask voters to decide if the clerk position should remain an elected position, or if it should be an appointed position.
According to Board documents, the question on the ballot will read:

"Shall the office of the Village Clerk for the Village of Bolingbrook be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Village Board of Trustees, rather than being elected, to be effective upon the expiration of the term of office held by the current Village Clerk?"
The current Village Clerk is Martha Barton, and she has served in the position since 2020.
