Township, Hospital to Partner for New 'We Care Card' Program

Township hopes to help 16,000 residents get access to health assessments.

An upcoming partnership between the and could help thousands of township residents obtain personal health assessments, even if they don't have adequate insurance, officials say.

DuPage Township Supervisor Bill Mayer said he hopes to serve at least 16,000 residents through the program, dubbed the 'We Care Card'.

Here's how it works. Any resident who uses the township's food pantry or general or emergency assistance will be able to obtain a card. Doctors, then, at ABH will give each cardholder a personal assessment of their health—is there a family history of cancer or diabetes, etc.

The cardholder would then be put into certain categories and be able to obtain certain health assessments, such as blood pressure checkups, that they would not otherwise be able to get.

The township will spend $20,000 on the program—it approved the budget line item at its last board meeting and will approve the fine writing at its next meeting—and the hospital will donate the rest.

Mayer will introduce the program at an event with State Sen. A.J. Wilhelmi and State Rep. Emily McAsey on Tuesday at the DuPage Township Levy Center. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and at 12:30, Mayer will release the new program.
