Update: Cops Say Sunday Night Search Unrelated to Murder

The "possible home invasion" stemmed from a "domestic dispute," according to police.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Sunday night search following an apparent home invasion at a residence where a man was shot to death 15 days ago was unrelated to the killing, police said.

Officers were sent to the home on Cypress Drive “for a possible home invasion” about 6 p.m., said Bolingbrook police Lt. Carter Larry.

“The incident was stemming from a domestic dispute, and the possible suspect fled the scene,” Larry said. “The incident is still being investigated.”

A source tipped Patch to police setting up a perimeter and launching a search following the apparent home invasion. The housebreaker allegedly struck just over 24 hours after Bolingbrook resident Kevin Jerel Bailey was arrested and charged with the Feb. 6 murder of 21-year-old Juantrelle Quarles.

When he was killed, Quarles was among a group that had gathered at the residence on Cypress following a funeral in Summit, police said.

Quarles, a Bolingbrook resident, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to Will County Coroner Patrick O’Neil’s office.

A second man was wounded in the shooting, police said.

Bailey, 22, was booked into the Will County jail Saturday on charges of murder and second-degree murder.

A source identified the alleged home invader as a 19-year-old from Bolingbrook. The teen already has a warrant out for his arrest for missing a court date in connection with a felony theft case, according to court records.

Larry confirmed “there was an incident involving” the teen Sunday night and said that “detectives and officers are currently investigating it.”

Larry also said the alleged home invasion was not connected to the Quarles killing.

“It’s not related to the homicide,” he said.
