Bolingbrook Public Works Department to Combine with Community Development
The village of Bolingbrook will combine the position of director of community development and public works into one position by May 1.

The village of Bolingbrook plans to combine the duties of both the director of community development and director of public works come May 1.
Patch reported March 4 that the director of community development would be cut from the village's 2013-2014 budget. Dennis Kowalczyk currently serves as the director of community development. Kowalczyk earned a salary of almost $90,000 in 2012 with almost $37,000 in benefits.
Michael Drey served as the current director of public works. He is the village's highest paid employee, with a salary of $124,000 and almost $42,000 in benefits.

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar told CBS2 that the two positions would be combined, much like the police and fire chief positions will also be combined by May 1.
"Claar said saving money from the budget was the only reason for merging the jobs and he will continue looking to 'streamline' village management," CBS2 reported.

As for the police and fire combination, current Bolingbrook Police Chief Kevin McCarthy told CBS2 Deputy Fire Chief Trinedad Garza and the battalion chiefs "will continue supervising everything but administrative duties."
