'Big The Musical' A Family Affair In Buffalo Grove

Eight different families are working together on the show, which runs from July 18 through 27 at the Buffalo Grove Community Arts Center.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Though it's been nearly 40 years since "Big" captured the imagination of young and old audiences alike on the silver screen, a musical version of the Tom Hanks film will soon be playing in Buffalo Grove. Big Deal Productions, a program of the Buffalo Grove Park District, is se to present "Big The Musical," running July 18 through July 27 at the Buffalo Grove Community Arts Center.

According to the Buffalo Grove Park District, not only does the musical showcase "incredible" local talent, but also features a unique cast connection: eight different families working together on the show, including a real-life family of four performing together on stage.

The Laska family — parents Mark and Jessica, along with their children, Liam and Bridget — are bringing their love for the arts to life in this lively and nostalgia-filled show. Whether sharing scenes, songs, or backstage laughs, this family affair adds a special spark to the production.

"Sharing the stage with my kids and my husband as he makes his stage debut was something I never would have predicted I would get to do (maybe Zoltar did)," Jessica Laska said. "It's been so fun to spend our summer doing this together. The whole experience has created some amazing memories that we will never forget."

In addition to the Laska family, the production also includes five families with both a parent and child involved, as well as two engaged couples.

Directed by Tommy Novak, "Big the Musical" is a light-hearted musical comedy that promises to delight audiences of all ages, according to the park district. With show-stopping dance numbers, vibrant sets, and a real, light-up piano on stage, this production is a must-see, family-friendly event.

Tickets are $20 for adults/teens ages 13 and up or $15 per child ages 12 and under and seniors 62 and older. Tickets are available for purchase at bigdealproductions.org or at the Alcott Center during regular business hours, located at 530 Bernard Drive in Buffalo Grove.

Performances will be held at the Community Arts Center, located at 225 McHenry Road in Buffalo Grove on July 18, 19, and 25 at 7:30 p.m., and July 20, 26, and 27 at 3 p.m. The production has been rated PG by the licensing company.
