Buffalo Grove: Utopian Village or 'Suburban Wasteland'?

A resident believes he's found utopia in Buffalo Grove, while a satirical article implies that suburban life leaves much to be desired. What do you think?

Buffalo Grove was made the poster child for the pitfalls of suburban life in a 2001 article in the satirical publication The Onion. A dozen years later, the story is still being circulated via social media by Buffalo Grove residents.

The article tells the story of a Chicago family that was discovered living in a Buffalo Grove subdivision after going missing from a city apartment eight years earlier. The family “faced many hardships” in the suburb, The Onion wrote, including “frequent ant infestation,” “the threat of rezoning” and “cultural malnutrition.”

Meanwhile, Patch reader Randy F Gollay recently suggested that the village’s slogan should read, “Buffalo Grove — where utopia roams.” He’s even created a license plate frame bearing that expression.
