The nationwide effort, scheduled for Saturday, is spearheaded by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and local police departments.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Twice a year, the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with thousands of law enforcement partners across the United States, hold National Prescription Take Back Day events.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, a number of local police departments will be collecting the unwanted prescription drugs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., including Buffalo Grove. For those that can't make it, there is also a permanent receptacle to drop off unwanted prescription drugs in the police department lobby, available 24/7 at 46 Raupp Blvd.

Buffalo Grove police note that needles or syringes will not be accepted at this event. To dispose of those items, residents can utilize Waste Management's free At Your Door special collection.
