Former Buffalo Grove Village President Sussman Dies At 83

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Beverly Sussman, a former Buffalo Grove Village President and educator, has died Saturday at the age of 83. A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 195 N Buffalo Grove Road. The service will also be livestreamed starting at 9:30 a.m.

"Her legacy and impact on Buffalo Grove continue to be seen to this day in the students whose lives she touched and the projects she helped bring to fruition," the Village of Buffalo Grove said in a statement.

Sussman, who was first elected to the Buffalo Grove Village Board as a trustee in 2009, served two terms as village president from 2015 to 2023. Under her leadership, Buffalo Grove saw "expanded growth and development," according to the Village, including the formulation of the Lake-Cook Corridor Plan, the development of our Infrastructure Modernization Plan, and the groundbreaking of The Clove, the largest redevelopment project in Buffalo Grove history. Sussman is also credited for leading the Village during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sussman moved to Buffalo Grove with her husband, Marty, in 1971 and spent decades giving back to her community through her dedicated public service. She served the community for many years as a teacher with Kildeer Countryside School District 96 and as a commissioner on the Village's Rick Kahen Commission for Residents with Disabilities.

Interment will be at Shalom Memorial Park in Arlington Heights. Shiva will immediately follow Tuesday at Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road, Buffalo Grove, until 9 p.m. Wednesday Shiva will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Sussman residence, 1347 Logsdon Lane, Buffalo Grove.
