At around 10:50 a.m. Aug. 20, police received a call of a woman being attacked on the street on the 200 block of Forest Place in Buffalo Grove. Responding officers found the woman and a witness outside the home.

According to police, investigators learned that Romano, the woman's husband, had attacked her in their home, damaged her cellular phone and attempted to suffocate her with a pillow while asserting he was going to kill her. The woman was able to struggle free and run onto the street, where she found a lawn care worker, who shielded her as Romano reportedly tried to drag her back into the residence.
