North Suburban YMCA holds its 5th Annual Community Strong Golf Event
The Y raises over $55K+ to help with financial aid and charitable support for the community in their Community Strong fundraising efforts

Northbrook, IL – On July 17, more than 100 golfers, 25 volunteers, and over 50 sponsors and vendors gathered at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling for the North Suburban YMCA’s 5th Annual Community Strong Golf Fundraiser. The event raised over $55,000, contributing significantly to the Y’s $500,000 annual goal to support financial assistance programs for families in need.
This lively golf outing marks the second phase of the Y’s 2025 Community Strong Fundraising Campaign. The first phase, the Community Strong Dinner & Casino Night held in April at Loft 21, also saw a tremendous turnout. Collectively, these events raise nearly half of the funds required each year to sustain the Y’s charitable work, including scholarships and community programs that ensure access for all, regardless of financial ability.
“I’ve been to many golf fundraisers over the years, and this is by far one of my favorites,” says Dave Fogel, morning show host on 94.7 WLS-FM. “Now in my fifth year attending, I’m continually inspired by how the Y supports so many communities, especially underserved families. I always walk away learning something new about the impact they make—and I’m proud to support the Y’s mission.”

Following a fun-filled day on the course, the celebration continued with a closing reception and patio party, where the Y honored tournament winners and participants. The coveted top trophy was shared by two foursomes who tied for first place:
- Team Tatarek: Pat Tatarek, Alex Williams, Patrick Niday, and Ryan Liebgott
- Team Schultz: Howard Schultz, Kevin Braude, Chase Noonan, and Patrick Livengood – who celebrated their fifth consecutive win.
Crowd-favorite awards for Best Dressed Team went to Chris Murphy, Liz Chmiel, Jocelyn Garner, and Lisa Rudisel, who delighted attendees dressed as “Country Club Ladies on the Green.” Another standout for costume and cart décor went to Johanna and Bryan Benavides of Deerfield, joined by Lance Neuhauser and Mike McCarthy of Northbrook. The Best Dressed Individual Golfer was awarded to Kelly Chabebe of Rover’s Place in Northbrook.

“We always have so much fun with great energy at this event,” said Kim Nyren, Director of Community Investments and Events at the NSYMCA. “What was even more humbling this year was the number of local businesses that supported our golf event this year. Events like this are not possible without the backing of generous local businesses, and we’re lucky to be in a place that cares so deeply about families and the underserved.”
