Vernon Township Launches Holiday Giving Programs
Support local families this holiday season with donations of Thanksgiving baskets, wish list gifts and meals.

As the 2025 holiday season approaches, Vernon Township invites residents and businesses to share the spirit of giving by participating in one – or both – of its holiday giving programs. The annual Holiday Sponsor-A-Family Program matches generous donors with local families experiencing financial hardship, to ensure everyone can take part in holiday traditions. Sponsors can choose to provide a Thanksgiving meal basket or other holiday meal, or purchase holiday gifts that fulfill wish lists. The deadline to sign up to be a donor/sponsor is Friday, October 10, 2025.
Families range in size from small households to six or more members, and donors/sponsors can select the match that fits their giving capacity. Below is more information about the different ways to support residents in need:
Thanksgiving Baskets typically include non-perishable food items to create a full holiday meal, along with a gift card to purchase a turkey, meat or fresh produce. Many donors in the past have also included festive touches, such as themed place settings or family-friendly activities.

Winter Holiday Sponsors purchase gifts using a suggested list provided by the Township. These lists contain details such as clothing sizes, favorite colors, household needs, and wish-list items, that are oftentimes necessities.
In addition to the above programs, new this year, individuals or businesses are also invited to donate a holiday or Christmas meal.

Once registered, Township staff members will match sponsors with donation recipients and provide anonymous details on the household, including the number of adults, number and ages of children, and suggested gift or food items.
“This program is a wonderful way for neighbors to support neighbors over the holidays, when often financial challenges stand in the way of enjoying traditions like a Thanksgiving meal, or the ability to afford gifts for loved ones that many of us can often take for granted,” said Vernon Township Supervisor Tim Kobler. “Every contribution, big or small, can make the holidays a bit brighter for families in our community who are struggling.”
