The Vernon Township Community Mental Health Board (VTCMHB) will host its annual Mental Health Fair on Saturday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Vernon Township Building, 3050 N. Main Street, Buffalo Grove. Nearly two dozen agencies that specialize in mental health, substance abuse, or developmental disabilities have already confirmed their participation. There are additional spaces available for organizations that provide these services for Township residents. Agencies interested in joining the fair can email Al Dorfman at adorfman@vtcmhb.org to secure a vendor spot.

“This yearly event provides an informal opportunity in a casual setting for residents or their loved ones to speak directly with agencies that address mental and emotional health and well-being,” said Vernon Township Community Mental Health Board President Noelle Moore. “We invite any organization that provides these services to Vernon Township residents to join us and be a part of the fair. Our main goal is to help individuals and/or families to identify the resources they need and connect with the right service provider.”

All Township community members are encouraged to attend this free event to explore available resources and ask any questions of the different service providers. Representatives from the VTCMHB will also be in attendance. Additionally, therapy dogs will be on-site to provide comfort and smiles.

Established in 2022, the VTCMHB oversees programs that address general mental health, substance abuse treatment and prevention, and services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Board’s overarching goal is to remove any financial barriers through the awarding of grants to agencies that serve these populations. So far this year, the Board has awarded $1,067,000 in grants. An additional aim of the Board is to reduce the stigma that can sometimes be associated with seeking help.
