Garcia is filling the position left vacant after former Deputy Chief Ryan Husarik was demoted to sergeant following a DUI arrest while was he driving a police car in Virginia.

The police department has seen changes in its upper ranks this year.

In August, the Village Board approved Deputy Chief Marc Loftus as the new chief, replacing longtime Chief John Madden, who retired.

Shortly after, another department veteran, David Allen, was appointed to fill Loftus' deputy chief position.
