Burr Ridge Mayor Yet To Back Winner In Congressional Race

His campaign aide said the mayor has not spoken with her about endorsing Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau in the 6th District race.

BURR RIDGE — It has been over a week since the election, and the mayor of Burr Ridge has yet to endorse the winner in the 6th Congressional District's Republican primary.

In last Tuesday's election, Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso was defeated by Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau.

Pekau received nearly 39 percent of the vote, while Grasso finished second, with 27 percent, according to unofficial results.

Grasso has yet to publicly announce an endorsement of the Orland Park mayor, as often happens after primary elections. The only message he has publicly posted since the election has been a Facebook post the day after on his campaign page. He thanked his supporters.

"I will continue to serve Burr Ridge as Mayor and keep it 'a very special place,'" part of the post read.

His campaign spokeswoman, Rosemaria DiBenedetto, said Grasso has not spoken to her about endorsing Pekau.

"I do not know what the mayor intends to do at this point," DiBenedetto said in a text.

Patch has left a message for comment with Grasso.

Pekau will face incumbent Sean Casten in the November general election. Casten defeated U.S. Rep. Marie Newman in the Democratic primary. She represents the 3rd District.
