Hundreds of police officers from all over the Chicago area joined efforts to raise money for Special Olympics yesterday. From 5 a.m. to around 2 p.m., police climbed up to the rooftops of Dunkin' Donuts and spent hours there.

Burr Ridge Police Officer Angie Zucchero and Willowbrook Police Chief Mark Shelton climbed up to the roof of the Willowbrook Dunkin' Donuts on Kingery Highway Friday morning with the help of the tri-state fire department.

“Even with all the challenges they have, they don’t give up, and they keep persevering. And I just think to myself who am I to complain if I’m not feeling well one morning? These kids are out, and they’re doing it, they’re not letting their disabilities stop them," said Burr Ridge Police Officer Angie Zucchero.

"For me, it’s a little personal; I have a nephew who is in special Olympics," said Willowbrook Police Chief Mark Shelton. "When you see these kids come through, and one of them could be in first place, but he sees one of his friends may be struggling or not as gifted. They’ll stop, and help the other through...They set an example for many of us."
