Burr Ridge Police Warn of Recent Daytime Burglaries

Police say the burglaries do not appear connected to similar burglaries in Hinsdale.

Burr Ridge Police are reminding residents to arm their burglar alarm systems and be vigilant of suspicious people or cars in their neighborhoods. The warning comes after two recent burglaries, which took place in the daytime while the homeowners were away.

The first took place on the 6700 Block of Fieldstone Drive on April 20. The second took place on a side street near 87th and Madison Streets.

Burr Ridge Police say that they do not believe the burglaries are related to a string of similar burglaries that took place during the daytime in Hinsdale, because the MO does not match. There was no forced entry used in the Hinsdale burglaries police believe are connected.

"We've been following the ones in Hinsdale and other ones in the area," said Burr Ridge Police Sgt. Marc Loftus. "It looks like a different means of entry. Our two were forced entries."

In the break-in on May 16, jewelry and other valuables were stolen. Loftus said that although it appeared that jewelry was a target of both of the recent burglaries in Burr Ridge, nothing was taken during the break-in on April 20.

"In the first instance nothing was taken. The alarm was activated, and that quite possibly is what scared the person off," said Loftus.

Loftus said residents should not hesitate to call the police if they notice something suspicious.

"Pay attention to suspicious cars, cars that might be driving by slowly more than one time," said Loftus."It's better to let us check it out and determine whether it is or is not [a danger]."

Police say the same goes for people who seem to be walking by a number of times on different days or come to the home asking for someone who does not live there. If possible, police say to try to get a license plate number and a description of any suspicious vehicle.
