Only the outside of a house in the 5800 block of South Grant Street was damaged in a Monday afternoon fire, thanks to the rapid work of Hinsdale firefighters.
A neighbor called 911 around 5:23 p.m. to report the house fire, and Hinsdale fire personnel, who were nearby cleaning up after their annual softball tournament, responded quickly, according to the Hinsdale Fire Department.
The homeowner arrived at the scene around the same time firefighters were going into the house, and he told them only his dogs were inside. He helped firefighters bring the dogs to safety.
