Garfield Blocked Off, ComEd Working to Restore Power to Thousands in Burr Ridge

Village reports downed power lines throughout Burr Ridge. BRPD says it may be several days before power is restored everywhere.

ComEd crews are working to restore power Wednesday morning after severe thunderstorms left thousands of Burr Ridge residents in the dark.

"It may be several days before power is restored everywhere," said Burr Ridge Deputy Police Chief Tim Vaclav.

Although the storm did break lose branches, Vaclav said that he knows of only one tree that came down on a roadway.

"We have part of Garfield blocked off around the 6300 Block. There's a tree down on some wires. It's been blocked off since 9 p.m. last night," said Vaclav, who added that he saw a ComEd truck drive up as he passed the location on his tour of the village and believed that the roadway should be clear soon.

The village said Com-Ed alerted officials that restoring power to residents would be a "multi-day job."

"It was a major storm," said Village Administrator Steve Stricker. " We've got thousands of people out [of power]. Most of the North Side of town, and the South Side of town, and the Industrial Park. Fortunately the Village Center is on."

Stricker estimates that many residents will not get power until tomorrow.

"ComEd crews are out working, but there are several areas they haven't started yet," said Stricker. Stricker said that Burr Ridge residents should call 1-800-Edison-1 to report an outage and should not assume that ComEd will know they are without electricity.

Several traffic signals are out throughout the village, but no flooding was reported as a result of last night's heavy rains.
