Hinsdale South Alum Named New Principal for Anne M. Jeans
Cathe Smith will be taking over for retiring principal Dr. Debbie LeBlanc.

The school board has chosen a new principal for . Cathe Smith, the school's current Curriculum Director, has been with the district for the past 31 years.
A graduate of , Smith started her career as a permanent substitute teacher for both Anne M. Jeans Elementary and . She then became a full-time teacher for Grades 1 and 2 for Anne M. Jeans for nearly 20 years.
As Literacy Coach for the district, she implemented several programs, including a volunteer program, Pawsitive Therapy Dogs, READ 180 and Leading to Reading.

"As I make this transition from Curriculum Director to Principal, I will work hard to build on the strengths of the district and continue to focus on positive home and school relationships," said Smith in a letter of introduction to the district's parents. "My greatest goal will be to support and ensure student learning as we get our students and our parents ready for National Common Core Standards."
The board approved Smith's promotion at its meeting Monday night.

"Mrs. Smith is not only familiar with the systems currently in place, but she also has the critical expertise needed to continue to build upon the school’s work with the Common Core standards, local assessments and MAP testing," said Superintendent Tom Schneider in an announcement about the decision. "Her longevity and rapport with the school and community addresses a critical concern of the board and parents, which was that the new leader be familiar with the families served at AMJES ..."
Smith will be stepping into the shoes of Dr. Debbie LeBlanc, who is retiring after four years as principal.
"[Dr. LeBlanc] has made many lives better through her work, and we thank her for her dedication to our children," said Schneider. Schneider said LeBlanc, who has been with the district for 35 years, will continue to serve the district as Special Education Coordinator.
Smith, a resident of Darien, will begin her new role in August.
