BURR RIDGE, IL – A Burr Ridge neighborhood with a lot of water main breaks is the target of improvements this fall, which a resident called "a long time coming."

On Monday, the Village Board approved a $3.4 million project for the Carriage Way subdivision. The work is scheduled from September to December.

In 2020, the village designated the neighborhood as a priority because of excessive main breaks and the system's advanced age, according to a village memo.

"It's been a long time coming. I know the water committee has worked hard to get enough money, so they can fund it," resident Mary Bradley said. "I've been there for 25 years. Every house on my street has had two or three water main breaks. We are ready to have them fixed."

With the project, the village plans to replace distribution water mains and repair sanitary sewers in the subdivision, as well as replace mains along 62nd Street and Cove Creek Court, the memo said.

In 2019, a portion of the water mains in Carriage Way along County Line Lane were completed.

The low bidder, St. Charles-based Trine Construction, came in at $3,355,985, which was $144,000 under budget.
