I don't necessarily think that Ava knows she is a girl yet, per say—or that there is even a difference between boys and girls. She will come to discover this as time goes on. But I would never KEEP her or others from knowing her gender. It just seems wrong.
Now, just because she is a girl, I don't insist my child wear pink, or dress as a princess, or anything else "girly" because she was born a female; she can do as she pleases—play sports, wear blue all the time and become a total and utter tomboy and I would be A-Okay with it.
