Tornado Watch Issued In Burr Ridge: Thunderstorms Likely

BURR RIDGE, IL — Batten down the hatches: a tornado watch has been issued in Burr Ridge, and much of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, according to the National Weather Service. The watch lasts until 9 p.m. Monday.

All of DuPage County is included, as are McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, Cook, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Will, and Kankakee counties in Illinois, and additional counties in northwest Indiana.

The National Weather Service said that isolated tornadoes are possible as several thunderstorms develop Monday afternoon, bringing gusts of up to 70 miles an hour, and hail in some locations.

Potentially severe thunderstorms are predicted Monday evening in Burr Ridge, followed by overnight showers. Winds of up to 20 miles an hour could bring up to two inches of rain.

Showers/storms are expanding in coverage this afternoon. There have been indications of mini-supercell structures at times which could result in funnels/brief tornadoes. Tuesday is set to be calmer, with clouds clearing up to sun later in the day. However, more thunderstorms are possible starting Wednesday afternoon, and rain is predicted for the rest of the week.

The National Weather Service recommends an emergency plan in the case of severe weather, including designating a smaller room inside away from windows. Keep supplies like flashlights, batteries, food, water, clothing, and shoe handy, and make sure you have plenty of ways to receive NWS updates.
