Canales Named Director of Security & School Safety
Jeremiah (Jeremy) Canales was named Unit 4’s first Director of Security & School Safety. He joins the District from the Champaign Police Department. Canales had been with CPD since 2001 and accumulated extensive experience instructing and presenting safety trainings to community members, staff, students, and fellow law enforcement officers, including 11 years as an instructor at the Police Training Institute in Champaign. He served as Edison Middle School’s School Resource Officer and assistant track coach since 2015.

Canales earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University in Michigan (1994). He spent seven years as a patrol officer for the Rapid City (S.D.) Police Department before relocating to Illinois. His appointment begins Jan. 3, 2022.
