Illinois State Trooper Killed In 2-Vehicle Crash Near Champaign
Trooper Corey S. Thompsen, 28, died Friday after a two-vehicle crash. The incident remains under investigation, according to state police.

CHAMPAIGN, IL — Illinois State Police announced the death of Trooper Corey S. Thompsen, 28, who died Friday after what officials described only as a two-vehicle crash in Champaign.
Thompsen, who had served with the state police for nearly five years, was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 4:30 p.m.
The crash occurred at around 3:40 p.m. on Friday, but details remain under investigation, authorities said.

ISP Director Brendan Kelly described the loss as a heartbreaking tragedy for both the department and the trooper's family.
“It is with a heavy heart and immeasurable sadness that I inform you of the death of Trooper Corey S. Thompsen,” Kelly said.

“We ask the public to give Trooper Thompsen’s family, and his ISP family, time while we grieve and work through this tragedy," he said.
Thompsen is survived by his wife, mother, and father. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
