Local 149 Apprentices Graduate, Next Apprentice Class Begins

15 apprentices graduated to journeymen, before the next class of 17 new apprentices begin their careers

United Association Local 149 in Savoy recently graduated a class of 15 apprentices before welcoming 17 new apprentices to the union.

Local 149 represents more than 600 plumbers, pipefitters, HVAC repairmen and others working across East Central Illinois.

Apprentices spend 10,000 hours on the job and 1,200 hours in the classroom, working for contractors, universities, hospitals and other facilities, before they graduate to become journeymen at those places. That experience earns them higher pay and greater responsibilities on the job.
