Gardner Man, 36, Dies On I-55: Car Pinned Under Semitrailer

CHANNAHON, IL — Interstate 55 south of Joliet was backed up for several miles as police and fire paramedics investigated a crash that resulted in the death of a 36-year-old Gardner man. The Will County Coroner identified the fatality victim as Timothy Thomason.

The wreck happened shortly before noon Friday. The Gardner man's car was pinned underneath a semi at I-55 near Arsensal Road.

Illinois State Police posted on Facebook that the crash happened at 11:56 a.m. and the northbound lanes of I-55 were closed at River Road for the investigation.

The Gardner man's sedan and the semi were both headed north along I-55 toward Joliet when the car struck the back of the semi. Thomason was pronounced dead at the scene, Illinois State Police announced. The semi driver is a 52-year-old man from Roanoke, Virginia.

By Friday evening, both directions of I-55 were open again.
