Channahon-Minooka Student Recognized For Hitting All The Right Notes
Minooka senior Nyah McCallum keeps a 4.17 GPA while leading in music, service and school spirit, and has big ambitions beyond graduation.

Whether she’s behind a drum kit, leading a service project or announcing the school day ahead, Minooka Community High School’s Nyah McCallum is the kind of student who shows up with heart.
Per Shaw Local News Network, Nyah was named the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club’s Student of the Month for April and is standout both in and out of the classroom. She maintains a 4.17 GPA, has earned high honor roll every semester and was awarded the Seal of Biliteracy in American Sign Language — all while juggling a packed schedule of clubs, service work and music.
At school, Nyah plays in the marching band and indoor percussion ensemble, participates in multiple honor societies and has read the morning announcements for three years straight. Outside of school, she’s drummed for six different churches over the past five years — a rhythm of commitment that hasn’t gone unnoticed. Her band director, Kyle Adelmann, called her a driving force in one of the strongest percussion sections in the program and someone whose leadership will be missed.
For Nyah, being involved isn’t about racking up credentials; it’s about lifting the people around her. She sees her community not just as a place, but as the people who make it meaningful. That mindset will carry her to Ohio State University this fall, where she plans to study finance and pursue a career in corporate law.
