Drunken Man Runs Over 3 in Briggs Street Rodeo Parking Lot: Cops

The drunken man had been spinning doughnuts in the parking lot, police said.

The same night deputies had their hands full with belligerent behavior, flag filching and breast grabbing at the Briggs Street rodeo, a drunken driver ran over three people in the parking lot, police said.

Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 34, of Westmont had been spinning doughnuts in the parking lot with his Honda Civic, then suddenly sped toward a man and two women the night of July 19, police said.

Rodriguez ran over all three and tried to escape but crashed into a ditch, police said. Bystanders reportedly grabbed Rodriguez and held him until the cops arrived. Rodriguez claimed the bystanders roughed him up as well, police said.

Rodriguez also explained that he tried to take off because “everyone was upset with him,” police said, and that his suspicions were borne out when he was beaten by the bystanders after crashing into the ditch.

Rodriguez was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, then hauled off to the Will County jail. He was charged with driving under the influence, reckless conduct and numerous traffic violations. He also had three warrants out for his arrest, police said.

A 19-year-old woman hit in the legs by Rodriguez’s Civic declined medical attention but advised she would seek treatment on her own. A 24-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Silver Cross.

“He advised that he was struck on his legs and flew onto the hood and roof of the vehicle before being thrown off,” police said. “He advised that his knee was injured.”

A 20-year-old man “also had been flipped into the air after he was struck and advised that his back and legs hurt,” police said. “He was checked at the scene but declined being transported to the hospital.”
