Plainfield Convicted Felon Caught Driving With Loaded Gun Denied Pre-Trial Release: Berlin
Dieon Kidd, 30, was denied his pre-trial release amid multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from a traffic stop in Naperville.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A convicted felon from Plainfield is back in jail after he was allegedly found in possession of a loaded gun during a traffic stop Jan. 10 in Naperville, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office said Monday.
Dieon Kidd, 30, appeared in court Monday, when Judge Joshua Dieden denied his pre-trial release amid multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from the traffic stop near Odyssey Court and Route 59.
At about 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Naperville police on patrol on eastbound Odyssey Court saw a vehicle in front of them make a right turn onto Route 59, then cross into the far left through lane. When officers pulled next to the car, they couldn't see the silhouette of the driver, leading them to believe the windows were tinted an illegal amount, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres wrote in a joint news release.

Police allege that while waiting to turn eastbound on Diehl Road, the driver made "sudden movements to the glovebox," then back to the rear passenger floorboard.
The vehicle turned onto Diehl Road, and officers activated their emergency lights. Officers approached the driver, identified as Kidd, and as they spoke, they spotted a clear cup with clear liquid on the floorboard, officials said, noting the cup smelled of alcohol.

Officers asked Kidd to exit the car on the basis of the previous sudden movements, according to the release, and when officers attempted to open the glovebox, Kidd attempted to pull his arm away and resist the officer. After the man was handcuffed, officers opened the glovebox and found a loaded Glock 46.
Officers found a bottle of tequila in the trunk, which police said can be reached from the back seat, officials said.
"As a convicted felon, Mr. Kidd has forfeited his right to lawfully possess a firearm," Berlin said in a statement. "Public safety remains the foundation of my office and the allegations that Mr. Kidd unlawfully possessed a loaded gun are extremely concerning and will be met with the full force of the law."
Kidd was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon with a previous felony conviction, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and multiple misdemeanor and petty offenses, including resisting a police officer and transportation or possession of open alcohol by a driver.
Kidd's next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 2 in front of Judge Mia McPherson.
