Equinix Proposes Billion-Dollar Data Center Investment in Minooka
"A Multi-Billion-Dollar Investment That Benefits Minooka Without Burdening Its Roads." - Josh Stell, Candidate for Minooka Village Trustee.

MINOOKA, IL - On January 23, 2025, Equinix, a well-known player in data center construction, held its very first proposal meeting to discuss a potential state-of-the-art data center campus in Minooka. While nothing is set in stone, the proposed project would span approximately 300 acres of what is currently farmland along Ridge Road between Holt and Wildy. If completed, this development could generate $20 million in annual tax revenue for the Village of Minooka and serve as a multi-billion-dollar investment in our community.
During the meeting, the sitting Village Trustees asked thoughtful questions aimed at ensuring this development would not negatively impact the community. Their inquiries focused on topics such as maintaining compliance with Minooka’s existing ordinances regarding setbacks, noise levels, and air quality. They also sought clarification on how the project’s design and operations would align with the village’s standards to preserve the quality of life for residents. Equinix assured the board that they have no intention of seeking variances and are committed to meeting or exceeding all local requirements, demonstrating their interest in being a responsible and community-focused partner.
This proposal also promises significant economic benefits. During construction, union contractors would be employed where available, and the center’s operations would create over 160 permanent jobs. Equinix noted that their clients, who utilize these facilities, often have staff on-site, potentially increasing job opportunities even further.

"As a candidate for Village Trustee, I felt it was important to attend this meeting and advocate for our residents," Said Josh Stell, "I believe being actively involved in discussions like this is essential to understanding and addressing the community’s needs. During the discussion, I was interested in the potential benefits of this project, including the use of union labor during construction, bringing good jobs to Minooka, as well as the estimated $20 million in annual tax revenue upon completion, which could help curb rising taxes for our residents."
"Additionally, I raised a key question about the fiber optic infrastructure Equinix plans to implement. In line with my goal of strengthening Minooka's digital infrastructure, I asked whether this newly-developed fiber-optic infrastructure could be leveraged to provide faster, more reliable Internet access for Minooka residents and businesses," Stell said. "Equinix expressed interest, noting that similar projects in other communities have successfully expanded access to fiber optic Internet. As Village Trustee, I am committed to making this a reality for Minooka, ensuring our community benefits fully from this opportunity."
