Father, 63, And Son, 26, Killed In House Fire, Other Relatives Hurt

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan's Office continues to investigate the cause of death of each of the Tablers.

DIAMOND — Grundy County Coroner John Callahan issued a press released on Monday morning revealing that the two people who died in Sunday's 6 a.m. house fire in Diamond were 63-year-old Charles "Bill" Tabler Jr. and 26-year-old Alex Tabler.

Alex Tabler died at Morris Hospital's Emergency Room, while his father was found dead inside their house in the 800 block of Crystal Lane in Diamond Estates. Coal City Fire Protection District announced that the damage to the Tablers' home was in excess of $300,000.

Callahan indicated that the Diamond house fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal and MABAS Division 15 Fire Investigators. Callahan said his office continues to investigate the cause of death of each of the Tablers.

So far, $38,924 has been raised as part of the GoFundMe, which is called: "Support the Tabler Family After Tragic Fire." There have been 568 donations as of 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

"The Tabler family in Diamond lost everything in a house fire November 3rd, 2024. Unfortunately both Bill and his son Alex passed away in the fire. There will be a large amount of medical bills coming in while Betty and Dan recover, as well as funeral expenses for Bill and Alex. Anything would help and be greatly appreciated. All funds go directly to the family," the GoFundMe announced.

A neighbor told Patch the Tabler family had lived at the home for over 20 years. According to Grundy County Deputy Chief Paul Clampitt, mother Betty and another son, Dan, were being treated at different hospitals for smoke inhalation and burns.

No updates were available on the cause of the fire as of Monday afternoon.
