Other Brother - But Not Mother - Jailed For Allegedly Attacking Pregnant Teen With Cerebral Palsy

The two brothers are in jail but their mom is still on the loose.

The second of two brothers wanted for a vicious attack on a pregnant teen with cerebral palsy and epilepsy has been captured, police said, but the Joliet men’s mother remains on the loose.

Jose Gonzalez, 28, was apprehended and jailed Wednesday on a charge of aggravated battery. His brother, 21-year-old Matthew Gonzalez, was nabbed the day before.

The Gonzalezes’ mother, Maria Ortiz, 48, also faces an aggravated battery charge but has so far managed to elude the law.

Matthew Gonzalez, also identified by police as Matthew Gonzales, allegedly led the July 13 assault on the pregnant 19-year-old.

“He punched me in the nose and I hit the room door, and then he started punching my stomach because I am pregnant by his cousin,” the young woman said in a petition for a protective order.

“He also punched me on the mouth, busting my lip and tearing the inside of my mouth,” the teen said. “I blacked out for a few seconds. I slowly got up because I was feeling dizzy and called 911. Then his mother and brother blocked me from getting out of the house.”

Jose Gonzalez also allegedly helped his brother by punching the pregnant teen in the back of the head, and by threatening and verbally abusing her.

“He said he had a gun and he would go get it,” she said. “He also said I was a miserable ass cripple bitch.”

The teen said Ortiz, who can be recognized by her “buck teeth,” pulled her hair.

Ortiz is a “self-employed drug dealer,” the teen said, as are her two sons. She said their work hours “vary.”
