The Railroad Museum, dedicated in 2024, is located inside the former Union Depot Tower, which was preserved as part of the City of Joliet’s Gateway Transportation Center complex.

The Railroad Museum, operated by the Joliet Area History Museums (JAHM), celebrates the City’s past, present and future as an international transportation hub. The Museum is also an ideal vantage point for the internationally popular pastime of “railfanning,” or train-watching, and has preserved the UD Tower’s original mechanical and electric controls that coordinated the movement of trains through this critical intersection decades before computers took over.
