Troy school acknowledges Youth Art Month

Art fosters student growth in many ways, Troy Heritage Trail teacher explains

“I believe art is so important in schools because it provides students with opportunities to express themselves creatively in a variety of ways,” Troy Heritage Trail Elementary School art teacher Marisa Dion said.

March is Youth Art Month, recognized by The Council for Art Education, and March 13-17 is Illinois Arts Education Week. There are many other benefits of art in schools.

Art helps students develop problem-solving skills, approach tasks from different perspectives and learn from their mistakes, Dion added.

“In learning about and creating art,” she said, “students can find different ways to be successful and discover techniques that work for them. Art empowers students to find their voice.”
