Turano Bread Truck Engulfed In Flames On I-55

Wednesday's fire happened around 6 a.m. along the stretch of Interstate near Channahon. The fire backed up traffic for miles.

CHANNAHON, IL — A Turano bread truck delivering lots of hamburger buns went up in flames shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday along the southbound stretch of Interstate 55 near Route 6 in Channahon, ABC Channel 7 reported.

According to Illinois State Police public information officer Trooper Rodger Goines, the incident happened at milepost 248 at 5:51 a.m.

He said that Illinois State Police units responded to semi-trailer fire and the driver of a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled to the right shoulder after he noticed his trailer was catching fire.

He unhooked from the trailer and pulled the truck-tractor safely away. Nobody was hurt.

All lanes were reopened at approximately 12:24 p.m.

The fire caused a four-mile backup on I-55, Chicago's ABC-Channel 7 television reported.
