62-Year-Old Brutally Beaten By Teens On CTA Bus In Unprovoked Attack: Police

CHICAGO — A family is reeling after a 62-year-old man was brutally attacked by three teens on a CTA bus last week in Chicago, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of South Cicero Avenue as the northbound bus approached Interstate 290, police said, adding the victim was hospitalized with severe injuries.
As of Monday afternoon, detectives were speaking with two people of interest and the investigation was ongoing, according to police.

“This past week, my 62-year-old uncle was brutally attacked on a CTA Cicero bus by three teenagers in an unprovoked assault,” Tavarris Harvey wrote on a GoFundMe page.
“He suffered severe head injuries and was in a medically induced coma as doctors worked to reduce swelling and give him the best chance to recover. Even though he is no longer in a coma, he does not remember the event and has a long road to recovery.”

Donations will help the family cover medical costs and basic living expenses such as rent, utilities, food and transportation, according to Harvey.
“My uncle is the backbone and breadwinner of his household,” Harvery wrote. “This attack didn’t just injure my uncle — it put his entire household at risk of losing stability and security.”
