CHICAGO — Chicago Police have taken a suspect into custody after a woman's body was found on Monday night and identified as a woman who had been missing since Friday, police said on Tuesday.

The body of Brittany Battaglia was found in the 1900 block of North Kimball Avenue in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. on Monday night. The Cook County Coroner's Office has classified Battaglia's death as a homicide and the autopsy found that Battaglia suffered "multiple incised wounds."

Tuesday's announcement came nearly a day after Battaglia's brother, AJ, wrote on Twitter Monday night that detectives had contacted the family and said it was his sister.

“I am absolutely heartbroken to share this,” AJ Battaglia wrote on Twitter Monday night. “Brittany was such a kind person and didn’t deserve this. She was the best sister I could ever ask for.”

Earlier in the tweet, AJ Battaglia said that his sister was found in her boyfriend’s apartment and that her boyfriend was in custody.

Police said that they were investigating the discovery of the body as a homicide. Brittany Battaglia’s roommate told ABC 7 that Battaglia had gone over to the apartment to make dinner on Friday night. However, by Sunday night, no one had seen her. She was to have left for a work trip on Monday, her roommate told the TV station.

AJ Battaglia told the station that no one could reach Brittany Battaglia and that the location indicator on her phone had been turned off, ABC 7 reported.

On Tuesday, Brittany Battaglia's best friend Jen Hall announced that a GoFundMe has been started to assist Battaglia's family with funeral expenses and memorial. As of Tuesday, the fundraising effort has collected more than $2,800 toward a $10,000 goal.

Police have not announced the identity of the suspect and have not announced charges in connection with Battaglia's death.
