Body Recovered From Lake Michigan Near Where Swimmer Went Missing: PD

Police said they recovered a body from the lake off Foster Beach, where a woman was swept underwater while swimming and never resurfaced.

CHICAGO — Chicago Police and Fire recovery teams have recovered a body from Lake Michigan near where a 19-year-old went missing Wednesday night near Foster Beach, police said on Thursday.

The woman never re-surfaced after struggling to make it back to shore around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Foster Beach, police said. Search teams began looking for the woman, who witnesses told police, was swept under water by a strong current while attempting to make her way back to shore.

Police and fire crews resumed their search around 9 a.m. on Thursday morning and police said a body was recovered around 9:40 a.m. in the same area where the woman went missing.

Police have not said whether the body found in the water on Thursday was that of the missing woman.
