Here are the top three stories in Chicago today:

  1. In a late-night incident in Chicago's Grand Crossing neighborhood, a speeding car disregarded a red light and collided with a Chicago Fire Department engine. The crash occurred at around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of 79th Street and Prairie Avenue. Five members of the CFD were inside the engine at the time of the accident and were reported to be in good condition. The driver responsible for the collision will face traffic citations as a result of the incident. (CBS Chicago)
  2. Excitement is building among baseball fans as Wrigley Field in Chicago may potentially host the All-Star Game once again. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has expressed interest in bringing the Midsummer Classic back to the historic stadium in either 2025 or 2027. Wrigley Field, with its rich history and recent renovations, offers a blend of tradition and modern amenities that make it a highly anticipated choice for the prestigious event. (Country Herald)
  3. A 23-year-old man from Chicago, Jacob Grant, is facing charges of reckless homicide, criminal recklessness, and reckless driving following a fatal collision in March 2022. The incident occurred when Grant's Nissan Altima collided with a semi-truck on U.S. 41 in Crown Point, resulting in the death of his girlfriend, 18-year-old Aaleah Morales. Charging documents indicate that Grant was allegedly driving at an excessive speed and failed to brake when the semi-truck stopped at an intersection. Although Morales's mother expressed her belief that Grant intentionally caused the crash, the charging documents stated that Grant tested negative for alcohol and drugs.
