Chicago Cop Shot In Hand During Officer-Involved Shooting: CPD
Officers were conducting a traffic stop when police say the vehicle backed up and struck a CPD squad car, which led officers to fire.

CHICAGO — A Chicago Police Department officer remains hospitalized in good condition after he was involved in an officer-involved shooting in the city’s Englewood neighborhood, police said.
Officers were conducting a traffic stop of a vehicle in the 5600 block of South Shields just before 7:30 p.m. Monday when the vehicle was put into reverse and backed into the CPD squad car, police said in a news release.
Officers fired at the vehicle as gunfire was exchanged police said. The vehicle then sped off and police said one of the officers sustained a gunshot wound to the hand and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. No one is in custody at this time, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, which is also being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. The officers involved in the incident will be placed on administrative duties for 30 days as is CPD policy.
Interim Police Superintendent Fred Waller said that the police officer who was injured in in good spirits.

ABC7 reported that witnesses saw several police vehicles drive into an alley on Shields Avenue between 56th and 57th streets and that witnesses heard between four and eight shots being fired and that a black BMW sped away.
